Hello followers! Welcome to my first k-pop review. For my first post, I’m reviewing Twinkle by the SNSD subunit group TaeTiSeo. I’d just like to say thanks to the anon to requested this song for me to review. Thanks for putting me through torture.
To me, the song sounds like something SNSD would make. So from the start, you could tell it was by them. The vocals were great. Song was sort of catchy, but not something I would personally like or listen to again. The thing that really bugs me about the song is the beat of it. If you take out the vocals and remove some of the parts from the instrumental, it sounds like something you would find in a porno. Other than that, the song is an ordinary SNSD song. Nothing special and nothing unordinary.
Where do I even start? First of all, SM, PLEASE STOP putting those horrible ads in your videos. You know, the ones with the terrible English. They are so annoying!
The music video itself was interesting. They pull up to this building in a limo. The license plate says Twinkle. That’s understandable because that’s the name of the song. There is also paparazzi waiting for them outside. They are just casually talking to one another, waiting for the girls to get out of the limo, I assume. Then the 3 girls, whatever their names are, get out of the limo, walk up the stars, and start singing and dancing. What the fuck are they doing? Please tell me who sings and dances right after they get out of a car? Need I remind you the paparazzi are there. If I was a celebrity, I wouldn’t stay outside when there are paparazzi there. I would get the fuck inside! They even have backup dancers who come out of nowhere. WHAT?
After their little dance show, they finally go inside the building. This building looks like it’s a theater of some sort. Maybe they’re going to perform? Or they’re going to see a show? So they’re inside and walking/dancing through the hallway. The workers who are there are just standing there watching them like some sort of perv or stalker. Creepy. The next scene shows the girls in a very white room. One is holding a very adorable dog. This white room seems to be backstage at the theater building. They are being shown expensive clothes and shoes. The facial expression of the girl with the shoes is so funny.
They are then sitting down and getting their hair did and make up done. They’re also holding a bottle of perfume like they’re in an ad. Because you know, we all do that while putting on perfume. There’s also a hot guy in the room with them. To my understanding, it’s someone from EXO? I don’t know. They probably had one big giant orgy with him before they got all made up. This whole scene shows exactly why I don’t like SNSD. They are too “material girl”. Too much material items and that material look to them. I don’t like it at all.
They are then back in the hallway where the pervs were staring at them. Look! 2 more cute guys! But wait? Whats that at the bottom of the screen? An ad for the bottle of perfume they were holding. This video was basically one big giant ad for a perfume brand they are endorsing.
So they finish their little dance number and go to the stage where they perform. To my amazement, black people! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a black person in a k-pop music video before. I wonder if it was hard for them to find them in Korea. So the girls are just standing there, swaying around a bit, singing into the microphone. No dancing at all! So why were they dancing outside and all throughout the hallway if they weren’t even going to dance at their performance. Doesn’t really make sense to me.
We cut to the next scene where one of the girls is standing there and the 2 other ones are walking down the conveniently placed staircase… on a roof top! The 2 girls finally walked down and met up with the other girl. They start to pose with another conveniently placed item, a grand piano. Which, to my surprise (not really), they don’t even play. In fact, in the next scene, the piano magically disappears! Don’t worry, this is to make room for the next dance number. They start dancing with their backup dancers, who again, came out of nowhere. They dance a dance they SHOULD have danced during their performance. Basically, the last minute of the video is them dancing in an odd looking room with cut backs to them dancing on the roof top.
In the final scene, we are back outside where the paparazzi are waiting for the girls to come back out. They notice the door is opening. They get all excited and got their cameras ready. Who is coming out of the building? It’s the cute dog from earlier in the video! The paparazzi are disappointed that the dog isn’t who they wanted. The camera pans up and we see the girls looking down at the paparazzi and laughing.
Overall, the song was ok. The music video on the other hand, wasn’t. First of all, like I said before, why are they dancing right when they get out of the car? What are they trying to prove to the paparazzi? It just seems random. If they’re the performers, why are they entering the theater from the main entrance? Shouldn’t they be entering backstage? The whole shameless advertising for the perfume within the music video also bugs me. They aren’t even trying to hide the fact that they’re advertising it.
Do you want to know my favorite part of the music video? The ending! Because the horrible music video was finally over! This is a sad excuse for a MV. But if you’re an SNSD fan, you probably obviously like it.
I give this music video…
1 cute dog out of 5
